Phillip Layzell - Australian Artist

Phillip was born at Harrow, west of London in the United Kingdom. As a boy he enjoyed drawing, painting and studying pictures of the great masters. He was advised that a career in art was out of the question as, "It would be too difficult to get into". In spite of this advice he began work in the graphic arts industry in 1957. For the first ten years he was employed by some of the best studios in London learning and gaining a wide experience in many different forms of artwork, design and illustration. In 1967, seeking a new challenge, he immigrated to Australia. During the next nine years he worked in Sydney for well known studios, design groups and agencies.
In 1976 he began to work as a freelance artist for the next 20 years. In 1996 Phillip started work in the exhibition display business using his skills on a much larger scale painting large murals.
With the advance of computer technology and large format printing, Phillip learnt new skills. The computer was used to create digital artwork, design and illustration. This proved to be an interesting and challenging experience. Although Phillip enjoyed a good deal of success in the digital art world he did not not find it very satisfying. In recent years he returned to traditional art and is enjoying a revitalized career with oil and watercolour painting. He lives happily in the Blue Mountains surrounded by its inspiration with his family. Apart from landscape painting he also enjoys painting flora, fauna and anything that is still life or mechanical. He has recently won a few awards and has just completed a number of commissions.
